About The Position

This is an unpaid internship opportunity within the Vocational Services program at Access. The program offers educational, career, and employment services for adults and young adults with mental health, learning, and/or substance use disorders, as well as other disabilities, in Westchester, the Bronx, and Manhattan. Services include vocational evaluations and exploration, supported employment, job placement, and work experience development. Participants prepare for job interviews, access community resources, apply for technical schools and post-secondary education, and develop plans for employment or continuing education.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program that will grant credit hours for the internship.
  • Must be an undergraduate student studying Human Services or a related field.
  • Strong organization skills with accurate attention to detail.
  • Sufficient skills to communicate effectively with both clients and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in human services field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct intakes for individuals referred to Vocational Services program.
  • Monitor vocational evaluations.
  • Score various career interest, math, and reading tests.
  • Assist with preparing individuals to go back to work.
  • Review interviewing and presentation skills with clients.
  • Facilitate vocational groups.
  • Complete basic clerical work, such as reviewing charts and putting together charts.
  • Aid the organization in providing supported employment, job search and job placement, resume writing and interview skills, job coaching, work experience internships, vocational assessment, education and career planning, job retention support, benefits and workplace accommodations counseling, and pre-employment services for students and young adults.
