About The Position

GOODWILL GREATER NEW YORK AND NORTHERN NEW JERSEY is seeking a Career Navigator (Case Manager) to provide a full range of client services to job seekers. This role involves intake and orientation, assessments to identify skills and match them with open positions. The Career Navigator will prioritize the job seeker's needs and assist them in overcoming barriers to employment.

Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. degree required.
  • At least one to two years' experience providing career navigation, case management, vocational counseling, or employment services.
  • Ability to establish rapport, build trust, empower, and provide occupational guidance to youth.
  • An understanding of the special needs of an economically and socially disadvantaged population.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Record-keeping, case noting, HIPAA compliance, and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including active and reflective listening, motivational interviewing, authentic communication, and conflict resolution.
  • Highly effective problem-solving and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to focus on deadlines and details.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience preferred in working with individuals receiving public assistance or those who are experiencing or have experienced substance abuse, homelessness, mental health issues, or have been involved with the justice system.
  • Bilingual is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Complete clients Employment and Individual Service Plan, ensuring timely recording in SEAMS.
  • Develop long and short-term goals consistent with the client's interests, previous work histories, education, and assessment results.
  • Complete case notes and assessments adhering to time frames set by Goodwill Industries.
  • Provide follow-up counseling and guidance services to address barriers to employment and make appropriate referrals to vendor services, agencies, and HRA representatives.
  • Monitor and track client engagement and participation activities to ensure clients meet weekly and monthly goals and adjust life plans when required.
  • Coordinate closely with the Employer Engagement Specialist to drive assessment and matching to available positions.
  • Review resume and other skills assessments to tailor the job matching process.
  • Provide individual and small group instruction to develop and edit resumes and other documentation related to employment placement.
  • Track all intake, assessment, referral, and relevant data in funder and internal systems.
  • Ensure all job seekers receive excellent customer service.
  • Connect clients to relevant public benefits as part of barrier reduction.
  • Conduct safety/crisis risk assessment and escalate to the Social Worker or appropriate staff when needed.
