About The Position

Blue Sky, Inc. is hiring a Career & Employment Specialist to help adults and transition-aged youth with disabilities explore career options, prepare for employment, connect with local employers, and become successful in meaningful community-based jobs. This role is not a desk job and involves varied daily activities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong combination of relationship-building skills, initiative, patience, organization, and the ability to learn.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets Blue Sky’s requirements
  • Reliable, insured personal vehicle with the ability to transport individuals as part of the position
  • Ability to successfully complete required background studies
  • Comfortable using computers, email, Microsoft Office, and learning electronic documentation systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to organize your work, manage multiple priorities, and follow through on responsibilities
  • Ability to work independently in the community while also collaborating with participants, employers, families, schools, and the Blue Sky team

  • Previous experience in employment services.
  • Experience in recruiting, staffing, education, human services, customer service, sales, workforce development, case management, or other relationship-focused work may provide the skills needed to succeed in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Getting to know someone and helping identify their strengths, interests, and employment goals
  • Searching for jobs and identifying employers that could be a good match
  • Reaching out to local businesses and developing employer relationships
  • Helping someone prepare a resume, complete applications, or practice for an interview
  • Meeting with an employer to discuss employment opportunities
  • Coaching someone through a workplace challenge
  • Coordinating with families, schools, vocational rehabilitation professionals, employers, and other members of a person's support team
  • Helping remove barriers that may be standing between someone and successful employment
  • Documenting services and keeping your caseload organized
  • Working independently throughout the Detroit Lakes area while staying connected with the Blue Sky team
