The Career Counselor administers leaves and passes in CIS to adhere to DOL policies. This role involves conducting individual and group counseling sessions, documenting progress using the RAP format, and assisting students in seeking advanced training or college admittance. The counselor will maintain communication with parents, guardians, and Admissions Counselors regarding student issues, and establish working relationships with staff to positively address student behavior. Responsibilities also include visiting classrooms and dormitories to liaise between students and instructors/residential advisors, providing information to the Student Personnel Officer (SPO), and representing students at review panels when requested. The counselor will meet with the SPO for consultation, develop referrals, and receive/follow up on progress reports and disciplinary hearings. Additionally, the role involves serving on committees, facilitating and monitoring Evaluations of Student Progress (ESP’s), and transporting students when necessary. Performance management goals include meeting targets for completers, AWOL separations with HSD/GED, and CTT completion/credentialing. The counselor must follow the CDSS plan and Code of Conduct, conduct and document AWOL follow-up, and maintain updated CIS case notes. Maintaining good housekeeping, complying with safety practices, and adhering to all DOL guidelines, OFCCP regulations, Job Corps notices, and Center policies are also key. The role models, mentors, and monitors appropriate Career Success Standards, helps students become more employable, and participates in mandatory staff training.
