The Career Counselor is responsible for administering leaves and passes in CIS to adhere to DOL policies, conducting individual and group counseling sessions, and documenting them using the RAP format. This role involves assisting students in seeking advanced training opportunities, maintaining communication with parents and guardians, and establishing working relationships with staff, instructors, and residential advisors. The Career Counselor also serves as a liaison between students and various departments, provides information to the Student Personnel Officer (SPO), and represents students at review panels. They develop referrals, receive and follow up on progress reports and disciplinary hearings, and participate in committees reviewing counseling program policies. Additionally, the role includes facilitating and monitoring Evaluations of Student Progress (ESP's), transporting students when necessary, working towards performance management goals (e.g., completer rates, AWOL separations, CTT completion), and following the CDSS plan and Code of Conduct. The Career Counselor must also conduct and document AWOL follow-up, maintain updated CIS case notes, ensure good housekeeping and safety practices, and comply with all DOL guidelines, OFCCP regulations, Job Corps notices, and Center policies. They are expected to model and mentor Career Success Standards, help students become more employable, and participate in mandatory staff training. Other duties may be assigned.
