Responsible for delivering counseling services to assigned residential and non-residential students in personal and social development, career employment, and behavior. Provides individual and group counseling and crisis intervention to all students. This role involves contacting assigned students prior to arrival to welcome them and provide information about the center, behavioral standards, and expectations. The counselor will meet and greet assigned arrivals, provide ongoing intensive interventions for students with issues like NIRs or unexcused absences, and conduct intake assessments within 24 hours of enrollment. The position requires providing structured individual social development and adjustment counseling weekly during the initial 60 days and monthly thereafter, along with scheduling and conducting monthly group support sessions addressing specific issues. The counselor ensures student participation in group or enhancement programs, supports students in establishing personal and career goals, and works to diminish early separations. Positive interventions with high-performing students, including activities on and off-center, are also part of the role. The counselor manages and monitors caseloads through frequent classroom visits, collaborates with various staff to case manage student progress, and identifies students needing more intensive services or referrals. Maintaining accurate and timely records of all counseling sessions and interventions in the RAP format is crucial. The role also involves collaborating with students to initiate and update Personal Career Development Plans (PCDPs) using the Job Corps automated system, ensuring students receive copies of their plans. Counseling services must be available on weekends and during emergencies. Support services include assisting with UA retrieval, conferring with parents and other stakeholders, and providing community resource referrals. The counselor must stay current on industry certifications, interact with other departments and community resources while adhering to privacy regulations, and ensure students participate in ongoing evaluations. Providing individualized projects for students needing improvement in Career Success Standards and actively participating in Career Management Team panels are also key duties. Finally, the counselor conducts and documents UA retrieval efforts, assists students with return transportation, monitors and enforces attendance rules, and helps students with leave and pass requests, safeguarding minor students.
