About The Position

The Career & College Promise Advisor – Jones County fosters the development of positive relationships between Lenoir Community College, Jones Senior High School, and courses that meet the broader needs of the community and industry. This role's primary focus is serving as the primary advocate and advisor for high school students in CCP programs. Eighty percent of duties and time are devoted to directly serving students and meeting the program needs of Jones Senior High School CCP students. A complementary role is to support continuing education instructors and promote the expansion of workforce development courses in Jones County. Essential elements of the position include bridging the gap between college and high school and providing learning opportunities for students at various professional and academic development stages.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, higher education, counseling, or a related field from an institution accredited by a federally recognized institutional accreditor
  • Three years of experience in recruiting, counseling, and/or retention is preferred
  • Ability to manage diverse policy requirements
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills are necessary
  • Ability to work productively under little or no supervision

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing plans of study combining secondary and postsecondary coursework to ensure that students have access to the maximum number of college credits available to them through the Career and College Promise program
  • Assist in the development of schedules that support gradual transitions into increasing levels of independence in postsecondary coursework
  • Work with secondary and postsecondary staff to ensure coordination of high school and college schedules that allow access to required coursework
  • Assist secondary staff with the registration of students in postsecondary courses
  • Support the Associate Dean - Jones County Center in planning and managing CE/Workforce Development courses in Jones County
  • Provide counsel and support for CE instructors
  • Compile and store data related to student success, including completion rates
  • Assist the high school with advising, registering, and monitoring dually enrolled students
  • Assist with new student orientation
  • Facilitate curriculum planning between secondary and postsecondary subject areas to reduce redundancy and maximize collaboration
  • Facilitate cooperative planning to align secondary and postsecondary expectations
  • Work with postsecondary department heads to increase course offerings at specific times or regarding special topics
  • Coordinate between college and high school staff to identify professional development that is appropriate or deemed necessary
  • Connect students with support services at the College
  • Promote Career and College Promise and LCC curriculum and workforce development courses, both on and off campus
  • Participate in parent involvement activities at the high school
  • Collaborate with college and high school disability service staff to ensure proper student support
  • Serve as the college advisor to CCP students
