About The Position

This is an open competitive Career Service position located at Northwest Florida Reception Center in the Education Department. The mission of the Education Department is to provide comprehensive educational programs and services to inmates, aiming to enhance their academic, vocational, and life skills for personal development and successful reintegration into society. The goal is to reduce recidivism and support inmates in becoming productive, law-abiding citizens by offering quality education and training. This position is not a telework position and requires reporting to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or its equivalent and three (3) years’ experience in the CTE subject area being taught.
• Must hold the applicable subject area license or industry certification or be willing to possess within 12 months of hire.
• Possess or be eligible to apply for a Temporary Florida Department of Corrections Educator’s Certificate or if applicable a temporary State of Florida Educator's Certificate.

Nice To Haves

• Possession of current licensure or certification(s) in the CTE being taught or a postsecondary certificate of completion (must submit transcript/certificate of completion) may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience.
• Applicants in possession of a master’s degree (official transcripts) may be eligible for an additional $1,499.94 annually.
• Possession of a temporary or professional teaching certificate may be eligible for a one-time $1,000 hiring bonus.

Responsibilities

• Plans, develops, and conducts classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement.
• Supervises inmates in the class, conduct roll calls, counts, and maintain attendance records.
• Ensures order, discipline, tool control, and safety in the classroom and/or shop.
• Evaluates student progress, administers grades and tests, and counsel’s individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
• Participates in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.
