About The Position

The CTE Teacher provides engaging, hands-on learning experiences that help students in grades 7-12 explore careers, develop practical and technical skills, and connect their education to opportunities beyond high school. The teacher will create a classroom environment where students learn by doing, solving real-world problems, collaborating with others, and developing the skills needed for success in college, careers, and life. The ideal candidate is creative, flexible, relationship-driven, and excited about building a strong CTE program that responds to student interests and prepares students for a wide range of future pathways.

Requirements

  • Valid Minnesota teaching license or ability to obtain appropriate CTE or teaching licensure.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and professional experience required for applicable licensure.
  • Experience working with middle and/or high school students preferred.
  • Professional or industry experience in a CTE-related field strongly valued.
  • Experience with project-based, experiential, or hands-on instruction preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to develop new courses and help grow a CTE program.
  • Strong classroom-management and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work successfully with students from diverse backgrounds and with a wide range of academic and behavioral needs.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, hands-on CTE instruction for students in grades 7-12.
  • Develop courses and learning experiences that expose students to a variety of career fields and postsecondary pathways.
  • Connect academic content to authentic workplace and real-world applications.
  • Teach employability skills including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, organization, professionalism, leadership, and time management.
  • Provide opportunities for students to design, build, create, troubleshoot, and complete project-based learning experiences.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of diverse learners.
  • Establish clear learning targets and success criteria and regularly monitor student progress.
  • Maintain high expectations while providing students with the structure and support necessary to be successful.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with students and create an inclusive classroom where students feel safe taking risks and learning from mistakes.
  • Establish consistent classroom routines, expectations, and behavior-management systems.
  • Teach and reinforce executive-function skills such as planning, organization, task initiation, time management, and perseverance.
  • Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, counselors, administrators, and other school staff to support student success.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, concerns, and successes.
  • Develop partnerships with local businesses, community organizations, colleges, trade programs, and industry professionals when appropriate.
  • Help students understand connections between CTE coursework, graduation, employment, college, apprenticeships, certifications, and other postsecondary opportunities.
  • Maintain a safe, organized learning environment and appropriately supervise the use of equipment, tools, technology, and materials.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, PLCs, school events, and other school-wide initiatives.
  • Support the overall mission, culture, and goals of the school.
