About The Position

Tallahassee State College (TSC) is seeking a dedicated professional for the full-time position of Career and Academic Advisor. This role involves responsible, independent, and specialized work in academic recruitment, advisement, registration, and orientation for general student populations. The position requires handling Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA regulations, ensuring its security and confidentiality. The advisor will play a key role in student success by assisting with orientation, developing retention and intervention strategies, and collaborating with faculty and staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related area from an accredited college or university.
• Three years of related experience.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree (may substitute for one year of the required experience).

Responsibilities

• Assists with New Student Orientation activities including facilitating and presenting on various topics.
• Collaborates with faculty and staff to develop and implement retention strategies.
• Develops, implements, and monitors intervention strategies for at-risk students (e.g., Early Alert, Academic Probation and Suspension).
• Serves on departmental and college committees.
• Advises students regarding academic programs and requirements of TSC and other colleges and universities.
• Assists students with educational and career planning, transfer programs, and other educational and/or career options.
• Works with individual and small groups of first-time, transfer, returning and current students to discuss placement, programs of study, career goals and major selection, academic progress, transfer, and graduation/goal completion.
• Assists students in developing individual learning plans.
• Facilitates advising workshops.
