About The Position

This position supports current students and alumni in developing their career goals and navigating the transition from college to career. The advisor engages students through both 1:1 appointments and career readiness programming, providing guidance in areas such as, application materials, interview preparation, career exploration, and job and internship search strategies. The role contributes to the development of innovative career programming in collaboration with the Senior Career Services Specialist, conducts employer and industry research to inform advising, and helps students identify hands on experiences and professional development opportunities that strengthen their career readiness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience providing student support, advising, coaching or instruction in a higher education or related professional setting
  • Experience with career development principles, job search strategies, and foundational career readiness skills (e.g., resume building, interviewing, and networking)
  • Proficiency with technology used in advising and career development (i.e., LinkedIn, job search boards, Hawk Central, or other appointment tracking software systems)
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized career advising to students and alumni to support career exploration, goal setting, and career decision-making.
  • Review resumes, cover letters, and other application materials while coaching students on professional communication and workplace expectations.
  • Prepare students for interviews through coaching, mock interviews, and career readiness skill development.
  • Guide students through internship, co-op, and employment searches using effective job search strategies, networking techniques, and career resources.
  • Design and facilitate workshops, classroom presentations, and career education programs for diverse student audiences.
  • Promote experiential learning opportunities, including internships, co-ops, undergraduate research, and other applied learning experiences.
  • Stay informed on labor market trends, employer expectations, and workforce developments to provide current and relevant career guidance.
  • Collaborate with faculty, academic advisors, and campus partners to integrate career development throughout the student experience.
  • Build and maintain relationships with employers, industry partners, faculty, and staff to expand career opportunities for students.
  • Provide consultation, training, and resources to faculty and academic advisors to strengthen career development efforts across campus.
  • Conduct employer and industry research to enhance advising, programming, and student preparation.
  • Recommend and implement innovative career development programs and services that respond to evolving student and workforce needs.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for Career Mentors by providing guidance, coaching, and ongoing support in partnership with the Senior Career Services Specialist.
  • Assist in developing and delivering training related to resume and cover letter reviews, interview preparation, career conversations, and career readiness.
  • Develop, update, and maintain training materials and resources that support consistent, high-quality peer mentoring.
  • Support the continued growth and visibility of the Career Mentor program through relationship building across campus.
  • Model effective career advising techniques and provide constructive feedback to Career Mentors as they develop professionally.
  • Assist with training sessions, workshops, professional development opportunities, and semester performance evaluations for Career Mentors.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative environment that encourages learning, leadership development, and continuous improvement.
  • Assist with Career Services, Experiential Learning Center, and Student Affairs and Campus Engagement events, programs, and initiatives.
  • Support employer outreach efforts and maintain employer engagement through Handshake.
  • Complete special projects and initiatives as assigned.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to remain current on career services, higher education, and workforce trends.
