Rotman Commerce serves approximately 3,300 in-program undergraduate business students as well as over 18,000 graduates of the Bachelor of Commerce program. As the Career Advisor, Industry, you will work with a team of career service professionals to ensure students and recent alumni are prepared to enter the job market with confidence and a solid understanding of how their strengths, values and interests are coherent with their identity and program of study. You will be responsible for the development of quality, high-level external partnerships within the CPG, Retail & Industrial industry sector in order to provide the highest quality career development services to students.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum five (5) years full-time, relevant, progressively more senior experience
  • Experience facilitating and presenting; experience in coaching or advising (preferably within a university setting)
  • Experience in career services, campus recruitment, or a related business unit
  • Ability to utilize technology, including social media, as an education tool
  • Experience in corporate relations or serving in a client facing capacity
  • Demonstrated written, oral and interpersonal skills
  • Strong project and program management skills; organized, ability to handle a variety of projects, deadlines and schedules simultaneously and under minimal supervision
  • Collaborative team approach and positive attitude
  • Outstanding customer service focus and the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people at different levels of the University and with external stakeholders is essential
  • Possesses a deep, as well as broad, understanding of the CPG, Retail and Industrial market sector and career options within the industry; understanding of career trends and opportunities
  • Must have a good understanding of business students and employment markets
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Tact, discretion, and sensitivity to confidential matters
  • Strong computer skills; sound working knowledge of MS Office; experience with databases and Content Management Systems
  • Ability to work outside of normal office hours for event support

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with post-secondary students in a university environment
  • Experience or knowledge in the CPG, Retail or Industrial industries
  • Valid driver's license and access to a motor vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Coaching students on a variety of career related topics including resumes and cover letters, job search strategies, interviewing, goal setting and more; increase student's confidence and efficacy.
  • Advising students on recruitment and industry best practices.
  • Advising students on technical career skills including but not limited to: technical interview preparation strategy
  • Developing, implementing and managing industry focused career programming to foster students' individual career development process; reviewing and assessing feedback received from workshops, programming and appointments.
  • Building and revising industry focused career resources and content
  • Promoting programs and service offerings to internal and/or external contacts, including employer jobs and engagement with students
  • Keeping well-informed on CPG, Retail & Industrial industry best practices and trends by conducting market research and analysis to uncover employment opportunities
  • Partnering with employers to support their Early Talent recruitment strategies, leading to establishing activities that best meet student learning needs
  • Analyzing and recommending actions to increase student / employer visibility; implementing plans and process improvements for employer engagement activities
  • Document stakeholder interactions for future reference and ensure the Rotman Commerce Portal is well maintained
  • Fostering cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts; identifying and maintaining relationships with potential and existing employers and corporate partners
