About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Commerce is the state's lead agency for economic, community and workforce development. The Department connects businesses with the site locations, workforce and infrastructure they need to succeed in one of the nation's top states for business. We also connect local communities with the grants and funding they need to attract new business and ensure future prosperity. The NCWorks Career Center provides a full range of services to diverse categories of job seekers and employers to meet their employment and placement needs through assessment and development of job requirements, evaluation of experiences, skills and abilities, referral to jobs, job training programs or other placement services. The position is in a local office environment located in Fayetteville. The primary purpose of the position is to provide information, guidance and assistance to customers seeking employment and employers seeking workers through programs administrated by the Department of Commerce/Division of Workforce Solutions and the local Workforce boards in a local career center environment. The mission of the North Carolina Division of Workforce Solutions (DWS) is to develop North Carolina's workforce talent, help individuals advance their career opportunities, and meet business workforce needs by connecting talent to jobs. The Cumberland County NCWorks Career Center provides a full range of services to diverse categories of job seekers and employers to meet their employment and placement needs through assessment and development of job requirements; evaluation of experiences, skills and abilities; referral to jobs, job training programs, or other placement services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in human resource administration, case management, job development and placement, employment counseling, vocational guidance and counseling, social work, vocational rehabilitation, claims analysis, or related public contact work dealing with job applicants and employers in a variety of functions; or Associate degree and three years of experience in human resource administration, case management, job development and placement, employment counseling, vocational guidance and counseling, social work, vocational rehabilitation, claims analysis, or related public contact work dealing with job applicants and employers in a variety of functions or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with local businesses and community organizations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and events, such as job fairs (hiring events) and employer outreach initiatives.
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations, understanding the needs of both the employers and candidates.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in written form effectively with a variety of individuals both internal and external to the organization.
  • Knowledge of job search strategies, resume writing and interview preparation techniques to assist job seekers.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison between the center and local businesses.
  • Manage programs such as Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) or Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) programs, by utilizing comprehensive knowledge of policies and procedures.
  • Identify employer needs, promote job opportunities, and facilitate connections between businesses and potential candidates.
  • Develop recruitment strategies.
  • Organize job fairs (hiring events).
  • Conduct outreach to local companies.
  • Maintain relationships with employers to understand their workforce requirements.
  • Collaborate with career advisors and job seekers to provide guidance on job market trends and effective application techniques.
