About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Commerce is the state's lead agency for economic, community and workforce development. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits, including health insurance, as well as retirement. The position is based in a local office in Monroe and will work as a Regional Floater throughout the Southwest Prosperity Zone to assist multiple Career Centers virtually and in person as needed. This position is part of a diverse team of Division of Workforce Solutions (DWS) professionals serving the Southwest Prosperity Zone. The primary purpose of this position is to provide information, guidance and assistance to customers seeking employment and employers seeking workers through programs administered by the Department of Commerce, Division of Workforce Solutions (DWS) and local Workforce Development boards in local career center environments. This entry level consultative role administers DWS policies and rules, provides guidance and assistance, and advocates employment for job seekers within the business community to ensure DWS goals are met. Responsibilities include delivering employment services, job training, limited unemployment insurance services, and labor market information to customers and employers. The position will plan, promote, review and evaluate services, while supporting job seekers through assessments, referrals, job development, placement, career development assistance and connections to supportive services. Duties also involve conducting interviews, entering information into databases, researching job orders, and taking job listings from businesses by phone or in person. The position will cross-train in Career Center services, conduct Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessments (RESEA), and collaborate with workforce partners in an Integrated Services Delivery (ISD) environment to ensure effective service delivery. Work is performed under the formal supervision of the DWS Manager in the NCWorks Career Center in Union County. May be asked to travel as requested based upon business need. Work may include travel between Career Centers throughout the Southwest Prosperity Zone.

  • Ability to gather information from employers and jobseekers with diverse backgrounds regarding job duties, required competencies, and minimum education/experience.
  • Ability to interpret program guidelines, review data, conduct problem solving activities, and prepare written documentation.
  • Ability to use or learn to use computer software applications to manage daily tasks, record program activities, and access program data.
  • Ability to learn customer service activities in accordance with agency standards.
  • Ability to communicate orally or in writing to a variety of audiences.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution with related experience in human resource administration, case management, job development and placement, employment counseling, vocational guidance and counseling, social work, vocational rehabilitation, claims analysis, or related public contact work dealing with job applicants and employers in a variety of functions; or Associate degree and two years of experience in human resource administration, case management, job development and placement, employment counseling, vocational guidance and counseling, social work, vocational rehabilitation, claims analysis, or related public contact work dealing with job applicants and employers in a variety of functions; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
