About The Position

Under general direction of Career and Technical Director and Secondary Supervisor, the Career Advising and Work-Based Learning Partnerships Coordinator is responsible for working with District staff, school site staff, students, businesses, and community organizations to plan, develop, and implement Career Advising with seamless transitions, Work-Based Learning relationships and systems; coordinate work-based learning opportunities in both community and school locations; provide an ongoing link between business, labor, industry and K-12 public education.

Requirements

  • Minimum bachelor's degree required.
  • Must have a valid Tennessee teaching license with secondary endorsement.
  • A bachelor’s degree as required to obtain teacher licensure in Tennessee.
  • Valid Tennessee teaching certificate at appropriate grade level.

Nice To Haves

  • A master's degree in education preferred.
  • High school experience preferred.
  • A master's degree in education or a related field preferred.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee the High School and Beyond plan and develop procedures for the creation of Academic Career Plans (ACP) for all students.
  • Develop procedures for discussing results of Interest and Aptitude surveys with families to determine potential careers, then develop plans to meet career pathway goals.
  • Develop and implement plans for students to have seamless transitions from middle school to high school to career achievement and/or post-secondary successfully and efficiently. This may include certain high school CTE courses, industry credentials, dual enrollment or dual credit courses, early college, pre-apprenticeships, work-based learning, etc.
  • Plan, develop, and implement Work Based Learning experiences and placements for all students with employers for students at Tennessee High School, Tennessee Online Public School and Viking Academy including school year, summer internships, pre-apprenticeships, and apprenticeships.
  • Oversee and promote Work Ethic Diploma opportunities.
  • Provide and coordinate college/career exploration opportunities via software programs, industry and post-secondary tours, field trips, job fair and career exploration events, family engagement nights/events, etc.
  • Serve on community college/career planning committees.
  • Develop procedures and recruit students for Industry 4.0 opportunities and serve as part of the counseling department to accomplish counseling goals by providing career coaching and work-based learning guidance on a monthly basis as required for Industry 4.0.
  • Plan, develop, and implement work-based learning activities with employers and BTCS schools; research best practices in similar/related schools; ensure compliance of work-based learning program with state and federal regulations.
  • Assist employers with program development; act as primary contact for employers with project issues, concerns, unique industry needs, interactions with and managing the students under their supervision.
  • Develop a system to monitor student progress through WBL experiences; maintain necessary records and data; prepare and process written materials and documents for the purpose of disseminating information regarding student’s status and progression.
  • Represent BTCS at workshops, conferences and meetings with business and educational leaders to provide information on programs available.
  • Participate and attend meetings, workshops and conferences related to employment trends and strategies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
