This is a paid program that provides economic mobility to Charlotte residents. The program teaches candidates to obtain their CDL-Class B through a 6-month program. At the end of the 6 months, trainees are provided a full-time job opportunity. The program is 40 hours/week and includes benefits. Candidates must complete on-site driver training courses to acquire a CDL learner permit and license. They will become familiar with bus models and can effectively complete pre/post-trip vehicle inspections. Driving will only occur with a CDL Trainer and Driver Mentor during the training process while learning to recognize safety hazards and use appropriate precautions. Candidates will understand required equipment/info in the vehicle such as fire extinguisher, safety triangles, and Back-up Camera; ability to correctly use a 2-way radio and use proper radio etiquette. They will obey all traffic laws and speed limits on the airport campus and learn to drive passengers and their baggage between the airport terminal and parking products, responding promptly to customer needs. Candidates will be able to provide information about the airport to the public and assist travelers. Light cleaning inside the bus (i.e., clean windows, empty trash, sweep) will be performed. Assistance will be provided to passengers in boarding or exiting the vehicle as necessary, including operation of wheelchair lifts and restraints; under some circumstances, assist passengers with baggage. Assistance will be provided to ADA Passengers. The ability to work well with others and adapt to changes in the work environment is essential; candidates must be able to deal with schedule changes, delays, or unexpected events.
