About The Position

Welcome to the City of Charlotte, America’s Queen City! We are a diverse and inclusive community dedicated to promoting the safety, health, and quality of life for all residents. Our mission is to deliver quality public services and foster a thriving environment. This is a paid program designed to provide economic mobility to Charlotte residents by offering a 6-month training program to obtain a CDL-Class B. Upon successful completion of the program, trainees will be offered a full-time job opportunity. The program operates 40 hours per week and includes benefits. Trainees will complete on-site driver training courses to obtain a CDL learner permit and license. They will become familiar with bus models and perform pre/post-trip vehicle inspections. During training, trainees will drive only with a CDL Trainer and Driver Mentor, learning to recognize safety hazards and implement appropriate precautions. Understanding of required vehicle equipment such as fire extinguisher, safety triangles, and back-up cameras is essential, as is the ability to correctly use a 2-way radio with proper etiquette. Trainees will obey all traffic laws and speed limits on the airport campus. The role involves driving passengers and their baggage between the airport terminal and parking areas, responding promptly to customer needs, and providing information about the airport to the public and assisting travelers. Light cleaning inside the bus, such as cleaning windows, emptying trash, and sweeping, will also be required. Assistance will be provided to passengers boarding or exiting the vehicle, including the operation of wheelchair lifts and restraints. In some circumstances, assistance with baggage may be needed.
