About The Position

The Cardiovascular Ultrasound Tech III - IP FT Morristown performs comprehensive ultrasound exams following established protocols. This role involves verifying patient identity, planning and performing examinations, and reporting results. The position also includes completing clerical tasks, ensuring accurate and timely recording of testing information, and promptly reporting critical results. Communication with physicians, patients, and other personnel is key, as is fostering an environment of teamwork, accountability, and problem-solving. The technician is responsible for maintaining a clean work area and equipment according to infection control policies. Continuous learning and professional growth are expected, including attending in-services and meetings, and suggesting improvements to techniques and procedures. This role requires skills of a Sonographer level 1 and 2, with additional focus on Protocol Directed/Research Protocols, professional development, positive attitude, and demonstrating HRO culture by identifying patient safety issues. The technician should seek opportunities to learn new technology and equipment and expand knowledge and skills. Involvement in professional organizations like ASE, attending conferences, preceptor duties, providing educational activities, presentations, shared governance, assisting with IAC, and QI initiatives are also part of the role. A CVT PACT completion is required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive ultrasound exams, following established protocols to verify, plan, set up, perform, and report appropriate examinations.
  • Verifies patient identity and informs and observes patients during procedures to ensure patient education, cooperation, and safety.
  • Assists in continuing quality assurance and performance improvement.
  • Completes clerical tasks associated with ultrasound tests, including accurate, complete, and timely recording of all testing information.
  • Ensures critical results are reported promptly and accurately, following established policy.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Communicates with physicians, patients, and other center personnel in a pleasant and informative manner.
  • Makes recommendations to supervisor on related duties, policies, and procedures.
  • Enhances the environment of teamwork by showing motivation, enthusiasm, acceptance of responsibility, and personal accountability.
  • Engages in problem-solving in difficult situations, asks for assistance/guidance when appropriate, and accepts suggestions positively.

  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner, cleaning patient areas after each use and assisting in maintaining a clean environment in the lab.
  • Notifies supervisor of stocking needs and equipment needs or problems.
  • Takes responsibility for lab opening and closing procedures when appropriate.
  • Cleans and maintains all equipment according to Hospital Infection Control policies and procedures.
  • Identifies own learning needs and responds to department needs.
  • Identifies, acts on, and maintains a record of meetings, etc., to upgrade personal/professional growth.
  • Attends in-services, lab, and departmental meetings.
  • Strives to increase proficiency in testing and other lab procedures.
