About The Position

The Cardiovascular Ultrasound Tech performs high-quality cardiac and vascular ultrasound procedures that require ingenuity, initiative, and independent judgment. The role involves following department policies, procedures, and protocols to provide quality patient care. The position requires the ability to perform 2-D echo exams to assess for LV function, wall motion abnormalities, cardiac and pericardial diseases, and valvular morphology. The technologist is responsible for promptly and accurately compiling exam documentation and technical worksheets for physician interpretation, providing preliminary technical information as applicable, and documenting necessary patient information for exam interpretation and patient care. They must assess the technical quality of exams, perform repeats as necessary, and answer questions from customers (nursing staff, physicians, public) regarding procedures, anatomy, physiology, and patient safety. The role also includes troubleshooting technical problems, maintaining flexibility for department growth, accepting additional responsibilities, demonstrating age-specific competency (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric), maintaining patient confidentiality, completing mandatory education, and attending staff meetings. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Current ARDMS (American Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) credentials in: RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) OR Current CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International) credentials in: RCS (Registered Cardiac Sonographer)
  • Must hold or obtain current BLS
  • 6 months as Cardiac and Vascular Ultrasound Technologist in Hospital or Cardiologist office, or Ultrasound School New Graduate with 3 months Hospital Cardiac and Vascular Ultrasound experience under the supervision of an experienced Cardiac and Vascular Sonographer.

Responsibilities

  • Perform 2-D echo exams to assess for LV function, wall motion abnormalities, cardiac and pericardial diseases, and valvular morphology.
  • Promptly and accurately compile exam documentation and technical worksheet for physician interpretation.
  • Provide preliminary technical information as applicable.
  • Document appropriate patient information necessary for exam interpretation and patient care.
  • Assess technical quality of exams before giving such to the Cardiologist; performs repeats as necessary.
  • Answer questions and provide information to center customers, including nursing staff, physicians and the general public on Cardiovascular Sonography procedures, Ultrasonography anatomy and physiology and patient safety practices.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems and work with vendors to resolve problems that arise.
  • Maintain flexibility as department grows, with a willingness to accept additional responsibilities requested by department director.
  • Demonstrate age-specific competency for the following groups: neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Complete all annual mandatory education requirements (including hospital, department, and job specific competencies).
  • Attend the required number of staff meetings per department standard.
  • Other duties as assigned.
