About The Position

This role involves assisting in all aspects of invasive cardiovascular procedures. Responsibilities include scrubbing, circulating, monitoring hemodynamic parameters, operating interventional equipment, and ensuring patient comfort and safety. The specialist will document supplies and implants, prepare and position patients, and educate them about procedures. A strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and equipment operation is required. The role also includes radiation safety compliance, sterile tray setup and turnover, patient history review, workflow coordination, and inventory maintenance. Daily checklists, equipment safety checks, and preventative maintenance are also key duties. The specialist will assist physicians with contrast media administration and scrub with Vascular Surgeons/Interventional Radiologists as needed. Proficiency in computerized informatics and participation in departmental training and quality improvement initiatives are expected. Use of lead apron and other PPE is mandatory. On-call duties for off-shifts, weekends, and holidays are required. The position emphasizes providing excellent service to all individuals encountered.

Requirements

  • Must read, write and communicate in English
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Associate's degree (or higher) in Cardiovascular Technology, Allied Health or Health Services OR Minimum of 3 years of recent experience as a Cardiovascular Tech in a Cardiac Cath Lab OR Completion of the Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist Will-Train at CCH
  • (BLS) – Current Basic Life Support certification
  • CCHC Basic Arrhythmia Exam (successfully pass)
  • (ACLS) – Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (obtain within 6 months, offered within)
  • (IABP) – Intra-aortic Balloon Pump Course (complete within 6 months, offered within)
  • (RCIS) Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist certification
  • (RCES) Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist

Responsibilities

  • Assist in all aspects of invasive procedures, including scrubbing, circulating, monitoring and recording hemodynamic parameters in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Assist in diagnostic and interventional procedures, operates interventional equipment and ensure patient comfort and safety.
  • Document all supplies, implants, and other regulatory components pertaining to the exam.
  • Prepares, positions, transfers, and assists patients during procedures to ensure safety, comfort, and optimal imaging outcomes.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding and working knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy, physiology, interventional supplies and equipment operation.
  • Provide patient education appropriate to the procedure.
  • Follows State regulations for radiation safety.
  • Assists in room/table/sterile-tray set-up and turnover.
  • Review and document pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data as needed.
  • Coordinates workflow to support efficiency of patient care and procedure.
  • Sets up sterile tray, cleans and disposes after procedure.
  • Participates in ongoing education and competencies.
  • Assist Physician with administration of contrast media with arterial, venous and percutaneous procedures.
  • Assists in maintaining inventory for the department.
  • Responsible for daily checklists, equipment safety checks/inspections, preventative maintenance, and reporting of any equipment.
  • Assist and scrub with Vascular Surgeons/Interventional Radiologists in the operating room as needed.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in computerized informatics (information system).
  • Participates in departmental training and quality/process improvement initiatives.
  • Use of lead apron required, as well as any other Personal Protective Equipment as required.
  • On-call required for off-shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned or requested.
