About The Position

BayCare Medical Group is seeking a skilled, compassionate, and experienced Physician Assistant (PA) to join their busy and dynamic Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery team at Morton Plant Hospital. The PA will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients undergoing cardiovascular and thoracic procedures. This role involves working closely with surgeons, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals to manage preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care of cardiac patients, including ICU, OR, and floor coverage. The ideal candidate will be flexible and energetic with two or more years of experience as an advanced practice provider in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, including OR first assist. The position also includes outpatient consultative and follow-up care, and will involve St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg. Call consists of 7 shifts per month, including one weekend. Candidates with cardiac and ICU experience are preferred. The ideal candidate should be flexible, affable, creative, energetic, and able to show compassion while working with patients. The team of five surgeons performs a comprehensive spectrum of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery services. The physicians participate in a mature and growing Structural Heart and Advanced Valve Care Center and play an active role in TAVR, MitraClip, and other structural heart procedures.

Requirements

  • Florida licensure APRN certification
  • Experience in surgical first assist required
  • Two or more years of experience as an advanced practice provider working in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery including OR first assist.
  • Flexible, affable, creative, energetic, and can show compassion while working with patients.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with cardiac and ICU experience are preferred.
  • Cardiovascular and thoracic surgery experience with endovascular vein harvesting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with evaluating patients preoperatively, including history-taking, physical exams, and ordering diagnostic tests.
  • Assist in performing cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures under the supervision of the attending surgeon.
  • Provide postoperative care, including monitoring patient progress, managing complications, and educating patients and families.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Perform patient rounds in the ICU, step-down units, and on the floors.
  • Participate in patient education, including pre-surgical counseling and postoperative instructions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Participate in call, which includes 7 shifts per month and one weekend.
  • Maintain privileges at Morton Plant and St. Anthony's Hospitals.
