This position is accountable for the provision of patient care and other activities as permitted by licensure and defined within Credentialing and Privileging documentation (hospital), Credentialing and Scope of Practice (Medical Group), Consultation and Referral Plan (DOPL) or other similar documentation as appropriate. As part of that patient care, this position is accountable to: deliver optimal patient care through effective clinical practice; education of the patient, patient's family, clinical staff, and others; consultation with other healthcare providers; and maintain current knowledge regarding options for optimal patient care and outcomes. Our Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are accountable for the provision of patient care at top of licensure within their scope of practice. The APP is licensed, credentialed and privileged to perform such duties as maintenance and promotion of health and prevention of disease; assessment, diagnosis, treatment, correction, consultation, procedures as outlined by specialty, and referral for health problems; education of the patient, patient's family, clinical staff, and others; prescription or administration of prescription drugs or devices in accordance with a consultation and referral plan; consultation with other healthcare providers; appropriate and timely documentation of clinical care; and continually learning and developing for optimal patient care and outcomes. APPs may also participate in research and utilizes evidence-based practice to promote quality patient care, protocol development, care process model development, and best practice standards for assigned patient population. This Fellowship is a 12-month opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to obtain invaluable education and clinical experience in cardiothoracic surgery at Intermountain Medical Center, a level I trauma center located in Murray, Utah. One Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellows will spend the majority of their year with the cardiac and thoracic teams; to separate teams with a collaborative combination of APPs and surgeons in their respective fields. The major role of the APP fellow will be first assisting in the operating room which will include training on endovascular vein harvest, and VATS procedures. It will also include, rounding on both floor and ICU patients, and work in the outpatient clinic. The fellowship will also have didactic work, and a case study report to be presented to the faculty at the end of the year. The Fellow will function under the medical supervision of advanced practice providers and physicians on their respective rotations, gaining independence as the year progresses. Fellows will also be required to round and work one weekend a month to offer ample opportunity for clinical experience and high acuity patients. The Fellow will undergo quarterly evaluations with the Program and Medical Directors. The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate a unique passion cardiothoracic surgery, will possess a strong work ethic and self-driven approach to learning, and will be capable of becoming a leader who advances the role of APPs in this field.
