About The Position

Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg, Virginia is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Cardiac Operating Room (OR) Team. This is a full-time, day shift position with required call. A $15,000 sign-on bonus is available for qualified candidates. The role involves working within a multi-disciplinary team in two operating rooms and one hybrid OR, including Cardio-thoracic Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, Cardiovascular Technologists, and Physician Assistants. The team is close-knit and collaborates with the Beacon award-winning CCU staff for post-operative care. Comprehensive training and one-on-one precepting are provided for those new to the Cardiac Operating Room. The position requires maintaining a safe and sterile environment, managing surgical instruments, assisting the surgeon, performing surgical counts, and coordinating with the surgical team. Responsibilities include managing complex open heart and thoracic surgeries such as bypass surgery, valve replacement, aortic dissection repair, heart transplant, TAVR, and open + minimally invasive thoracic cases. The nurse will be responsible for delivering safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the Cardiovascular Operating Room.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree - Nursing
  • Registered Nurse Licensure
  • BLS within 90 days of hire
  • 1 Year of Operating Room experience- general OR is accepted

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or MSN Preferred
  • CNOR- Certified Nurse Operating Room Preferred
  • Previous Cardiac Operating Room Experience preferred
  • Perioperative training
  • Scrub and/or Circulator experience Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a safe and sterile environment throughout the surgical procedure for the cardiothoracic patient.
  • Managing surgical instruments.
  • Maintaining sterility and a sterile field.
  • Assisting the surgeon by providing necessary tools.
  • Performing surgical counts to ensure no instruments are left behind.
  • Coordinating with the broader surgical team.
  • Manages complex open heart and thoracic surgeries to include bypass surgery, valve replacement, aortic dissection repair, heart transplant, TAVR and open + minimally invasive thoracic cases.
  • Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the Cardiovascular Operating Room.
