Requirements

Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing.
1 – 2 years critical care or general nursing experience.
Current RN license to practice in the State of Georgia.
Knowledge of exercise principles as applied to cardio/pulmonary patients.
Excellent EKG interpretation skills.
Excellent interpersonal and patient assessment skills.
Nursing skills as defined by the clinical practice guidelines set forth by the AARC.
American Heart Association BLS required.
ACLS Certification required within 6 months of hire or transfer.

Responsibilities

Performs comprehensive cardiopulmonary assessments including oxygen saturation monitoring, exercise tolerance, and ECG rhythm recognition to determine appropriate rehabilitation care plans.
Conducts patient exercise sessions using telemetry-monitored activity while ensuring safety protocols are observed and modifying treatment based on patient tolerance and vital signs.
Maintains active and supportive communication with each patient concerning progress, problems and other issues related to the rehabilitation process.
Conducts patient orientation sessions and performs comprehensive Phase I cardiopulmonary assessments for inpatients, ensuring individualized care plans and education to support safe and effective rehabilitation.
Develops and implements individualized rehabilitation plans in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals; provides care consistent with physician orders and department protocols.
Assists in disease-specific education including medication management, disease specific topics, and smoking cessation.
Performs and evaluates outcomes of 6-minute walk tests, spirometry, and exercise tolerance evaluations necessary for program admission, progression, and discharge planning.
Delivers routine patient reassessments to monitor progress and recommend adjustments to treatment plans. Communicates noteworthy changes or concerns with care team.
Documents all care, patient progress, and interventions accurately and timely in the electronic medical record according to department policy and regulatory standards.
Participates in program development, quality improvement initiatives, and data collection for program outcomes and accreditation requirements.
Responds effectively in emergency situations utilizing BLS and ACLS competencies.
Maintains treatment area in compliance with infection control and safety guidelines. Ensures availability and functionality of necessary rehabilitation equipment.
