Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing.
  • 1 – 2 years critical care or general nursing experience.
  • Current RN license to practice in the State of Georgia.
  • Knowledge of exercise principles as applied to cardio/pulmonary patients.
  • Excellent EKG interpretation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and patient assessment skills.
  • Nursing skills as defined by the clinical practice guidelines set forth by the AARC.
  • American Heart Association BLS required.
  • ACLS Certification required within 6 months of hire or transfer.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Cardiac Rehab desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive cardiopulmonary assessments including oxygen saturation monitoring, exercise tolerance, and ECG rhythm recognition to determine appropriate rehabilitation care plans.
  • Conducts patient exercise sessions using telemetry-monitored activity while ensuring safety protocols are observed and modifying treatment based on patient tolerance and vital signs.
  • Maintains active and supportive communication with each patient concerning progress, problems and other issues related to the rehabilitation process.
  • Conducts patient orientation sessions and performs comprehensive Phase I cardiopulmonary assessments for inpatients, ensuring individualized care plans and education to support safe and effective rehabilitation.
  • Develops and implements individualized rehabilitation plans in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals; provides care consistent with physician orders and department protocols.
  • Assists in disease-specific education including medication management, disease specific topics, and smoking cessation.
  • Performs and evaluates outcomes of 6-minute walk tests, spirometry, and exercise tolerance evaluations necessary for program admission, progression, and discharge planning.
  • Delivers routine patient reassessments to monitor progress and recommend adjustments to treatment plans. Communicates noteworthy changes or concerns with care team.
  • Documents all care, patient progress, and interventions accurately and timely in the electronic medical record according to department policy and regulatory standards.
  • Participates in program development, quality improvement initiatives, and data collection for program outcomes and accreditation requirements.
  • Responds effectively in emergency situations utilizing BLS and ACLS competencies.
  • Maintains treatment area in compliance with infection control and safety guidelines. Ensures availability and functionality of necessary rehabilitation equipment.
