About The Position

Upstate Veterinary Specialties is seeking a compassionate, organized, and team-oriented Specialty Veterinary Assistant to support our Cardiology department and help deliver exceptional patient care. In this role, you'll work alongside veterinarians and technicians to ensure efficient workflow, provide hands-on patient support, assist with diagnostics and procedures, and create a positive experience for both clients and patients. Requirements

  • Previous Veterinary Assistant experience preferred
  • Experience with patient restraint preferred
  • Basic computer proficiency and typing skills
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Positive attitude with a collaborative, team-first mindset

  • Ability to lift and carry patients or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods throughout the workday
  • Comfortable working extensively with computers and medical software
  • Ability to work in a veterinary hospital environment with exposure to animal odors, noise, and bodily fluids

Nice To Haves

  • Fear Free handling techniques are a plus
  • Veterinary Assistant Certification preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Safely restrain patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures using low-stress handling techniques
  • Assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care, diagnostics, and procedural preparation
  • Process laboratory and diagnostic samples accurately and efficiently
  • Prepare and obtain patient medical histories while ensuring accurate documentation
  • Educate and communicate with clients regarding appointments, follow-up care, and patient needs
  • Coordinate appointments and facilitate communication between doctors, technicians, and clients
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment areas and exam rooms
  • Monitor inventory levels and help maintain medical supplies
  • Anticipate doctor and technician needs to support efficient workflow
  • Collaborate with other departments during non-peak times as needed
  • Participate in department meetings, training, and special projects that support hospital growth and patient care
