About The Position

St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, a 571-bed, not-for-profit hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for its Cardiac Thoracic ICU. Founded in 1895 by the Sisters of Mercy, the hospital is dedicated to caring for the poor and underserved and is a nationally recognized center for quaternary care, medical education, and research. The Lung Transplant/Thoracic ICU is a dynamic environment and a dedicated 24-bed unit supporting adult thoracic post-surgical patients and those with medically managed respiratory disorders, playing a critical role within the Norton Thoracic Institute. The unit prides itself on quality scores and employee satisfaction, offering 12-hour self-scheduling shifts with a nurse to patient ratio of 1:2 or 1:1. As an RN, you will deliver compassionate, high-quality care, leveraging your expertise to provide individualized, comprehensive care, making critical assessments, performing skilled procedures, and meticulously implementing patient care plans. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, upon hire
  • Registered Nurse: AZ, upon hire
  • One year recent acute care experience, upon hire
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support, within 6 - months

  • Organize and prioritize patient care activities balanced with the needs and comfort of the patient.
  • Document the nursing care plan and incorporate the nursing process following the standard of care for patient care area.
  • Document changes in patient condition and response to interventions within established timeframes.
  • Demonstrate accountability for own ethical behavior, and support ethical practice by addressing and/or escalating issues.
  • Recognize limits of scope of practice, seek multidisciplinary collaboration, utilize appropriate resources, and follow chain of command.
  • Assume accountability for decisions made.
  • Serve as an advocate for patients needs by demonstrating holistic care practices.
  • Use knowledge of cultural differences to provide patient care that is sensitive to and consistent with cultural values, beliefs, and customs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to recognize and adapt to changes in patients condition (i.e. Lab, vitals, signs and test values) in a timely and clinically appropriate manner.
  • Utilize SBAR format tool to notify physicians, and other providers of clinical findings, perform nurse-to-nurse report at the bedside.
