About The Position

St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, located in Phoenix, Arizona, is a 571-bed, not-for-profit hospital founded in 1895. It is a nationally recognized center for quaternary care, medical education, and research, housing the internationally renowned Barrow Neurological Institute, Norton Thoracic Institute, Cancer Center, Ivy Brain Tumor Center, and a Level I Trauma Center. The hospital also specializes in high-risk obstetrics, neuro-rehabilitation, orthopedics, and other medical services, treating complex cases from around the world. As a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Lung Transplant/Thoracic ICU, you will deliver compassionate, high-quality, individualized, and comprehensive care, making critical assessments, performing skilled procedures, and meticulously implementing patient care plans. You will collaborate seamlessly within an interdisciplinary team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment focused on optimal patient outcomes. The Lung Transplant/Thoracic ICU is a dedicated 24-bed unit supporting adult thoracic post-surgical patients and those with medically managed respiratory disorders, playing a critical role within the Norton Thoracic Institute. The unit prides itself on quality scores and employee satisfaction, offering 12-hour shifts with self-scheduling and a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2 or 1:1. This role requires keen assessment skills, acute critical thinking, a patient-first mindset, a profound enthusiasm to help others, and dedication to excellence.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, upon hire
  • Registered Nurse: AZ, upon hire
  • One year recent acute care experience, upon hire
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support, within 6 - months

  • Document the nursing care plan and incorporate the nursing process following the standard of care for patient care area.
  • Document changes in patient condition and response to interventions within established timeframes.
  • Demonstrate accountability for own ethical behavior, and support ethical practice by addressing and/or escalating issues.
  • Recognize limits of scope of practice, seek multidisciplinary collaboration, utilize appropriate resources, and follow chain of command.
  • Assume accountability for decisions made.
  • Serve as an advocate for patients needs by demonstrating holistic care practices.
  • Use knowledge of cultural differences to provide patient care that is sensitive to and consistent with cultural values, beliefs, and customs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to recognize and adapt to changes in patients condition (i.e. Lab, vitals, signs and test values) in a timely and clinically appropriate manner.
  • Utilize SBAR format tool to notify physicians, and other providers of clinical findings.
  • Perform nurse-to-nurse report at the bedside.
