About The Position

The Cardiac Technician assists nursing staff by monitoring the heart rhythms of patients on telemetry. The role requires interpreting dysrhythmias and promptly and appropriately notifying nursing staff. As a team member in the Non-Invasive Cardiology area, the technician performs electrocardiographs and prepares EKG data for physician interpretation, transcription, filing, and reporting to the medical record. Additional duties within the scope of the role may be assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of an EKG interpretation course and a score of at least 85% on the rhythm strip exam within six weeks in the position.
• BLS certification required.
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office and familiarity with relevant computer software.
• Strong team leadership, organization, interpersonal, and customer relations skills.
• Ability to meet strict deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability and excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and proficient computer skills.
• Proven track record of successful performance.
• Ability to understand complex multifactor situations and develop appropriate solutions.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

• Prior training in EKG rhythm strip interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Monitor telemetry patients’ heart rhythms to assist nursing staff.
• Interpret dysrhythmias and promptly notify nursing staff appropriately.
• Perform electrocardiographs as part of the Non-Invasive Cardiology team.
• Prepare EKG data for physician interpretation, transcription, filing, and reporting to the medical record.
• Perform additional duties within the scope of the role as assigned.
