About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General is looking for a Cardiac Technician to join the team. This is a full-time Night Shift position, working three 12-hour shifts from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Cardiac Technicians assist Registered Nurses (RNs) in the preparation and recovery of patients undergoing Cardiac Catheterization, Interventional Radiology, and Cardiac Operating Room procedures. The department handles approximately 20-30 patients daily. In the recovery area, Cardiac Techs are responsible for post-operative patient care, including monitoring, cleaning, and repositioning. They also perform EKGs, collect specimens, remove arterial and venous sheaths from femoral, radial, and brachial sites, assist patients with needs while on bedrest, and transport patients to inpatient rooms or assist with discharge. This role requires the ability to lift, push, pull, and stand for extended periods.

Requirements

  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Patient care technician, cardiac tech, or healthcare tech experience in a similar setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Aid RNs throughout the prep and recovery of Cardiac Catheterization, Interventional Radiology, and Cardiac OR patients.
  • Settle patients in the recovery room postoperatively (hooking to the monitor, cleaning, repositioning).
  • Obtain EKGs or any specimens ordered.
  • Remove arterial and venous sheaths from the femoral, radial and brachial sites.
  • Assist patients that are on bedrest with eating, toileting, or any other request.
  • Transport patients to their inpatient room or assist in the discharge process.
