About The Position

Ellis Medicine is seeking an experienced Cardiac Surgeon with a focus on valve repair and replacement to join our growing Cardiothoracic Surgery program in Schenectady, New York. This is an exciting opportunity for a surgeon who is interested in building and expanding a valve-focused practice within an established cardiovascular program. The successful candidate will join an experienced CT Surgery team and collaborate closely with cardiology and the Structural Heart team to expand access to advanced surgical and transcatheter valve therapies throughout the region. Our cardiac surgery program currently has a strong aortic valve and CABG practice, with an opportunity to expand mitral and tricuspid valve surgery under the leadership of an experienced surgeon. Ellis Medicine also has an established Structural Heart program with approximately 150 TAVR procedures annually, providing a strong foundation for continued growth.

Requirements

  • Board certified or board eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Licensed (or eligible) to practice in New York State
  • Experience in adult cardiac surgery
  • Demonstrated experience with CABG and valve surgery
  • Experience with aortic valve surgery
  • Strong interest in program development and practice growth
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with mitral and/or tricuspid valve surgery strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performing CABG procedures
  • Performing aortic valve repair and replacement
  • Expanding the program's mitral and tricuspid valve surgical capabilities
  • Evaluating patients referred for surgical valve intervention
  • Collaborating with cardiologists and the multidisciplinary Structural Heart team
  • Participating in multidisciplinary decision-making for complex valve and structural heart patients
  • Providing inpatient postoperative care and daily rounding
  • Participating in the CT Surgery call rotation
  • Supporting urgent and emergent cardiac surgical cases when required
