Cardiac Step-Down Nursing Assistant
About The Position
The Cardiac Step-Down Nursing Assistant role is on an intermediate care unit (8NE & NW) that provides care to patients with cardiac-related diagnoses such as coronary artery disease (CAD), congestive heart failure (CHF), myocardial infarction (MI), and arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation (A-fib) and ventricular tachycardia (V-Tach). The unit also offers pre and post-procedure care for patients undergoing cardiac procedures like catheterization/angioplasty, stents, ablations, and pacemaker/defibrillator placement. Nurses on this unit receive specialized training and are ACLS certified, with all patients continuously monitored by telemetry. The hospital, Royal Oak Hospital, is recognized by U.S. News & World Report and is a Magnet-designated facility with Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma designations.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support required
Nice To Haves
- Previous hospital or nursing home experience preferred
- Current CNA certification preferred
Responsibilities
- Provides care to the patient according to the plan of care, unit routine and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services.
- Provides the services of an Observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation, either in person or via remote video monitoring, to maximize his/her safety.
- Performs general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.
- Documentation of care provided in the electronic medical record.
