  • Adult Echocardiography: One (1) year of experience working in an IAC accredited institution (or credentialed new grads within 1 year of graduation).
  • Pediatric Echocardiography (Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital): One (1) year of experience imaging congenital heart defect and surgical repairs in an IAC accredited institution (or new grads within 1 year of graduation, must obtain credential within six (6) months of starting the position).
  • Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Technologist or Diagnostic Medical Sonographer program.
  • Associates degree (or higher) in a related field is acceptable in lieu of the completion of an Ultrasound Imaging/Sonographer Program.
  • An appropriate credential in Echocardiography: Registered as a Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) (AE) from the American Registry for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) OR Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by the Cardiovascular Credentialing Institute (CCI) OR Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
  • For Pediatric Echocardiography (Joe DiMaggio): Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) in Pediatric Echocardiography (PE) from the American Registry for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) OR Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).

Responsibilities

  • Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s).
  • Analyzes imaging results and takes appropriate action to improve image quality for optimal results.
  • Enters, transmits, and reports thorough comprehensive preliminary report of study data to physician staff.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies.
  • Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters.
  • Applies safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.
  • Ensures proper working order of equipment.
  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders.
  • Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
  • Performs advanced diagnostic imaging (3D, myocardial mechanics, mechanical circulatory support devices, transcatheter therapies, etc.), when applicable.
  • May travel to satellite locations to perform diagnostic procedures.
  • When applicable, prepares and administers ultrasound enhancing agents (UEA) and/or medications within scope of practice.
  • Monitors patient condition and reports changes in status as align with department policy.
  • Coordinates patient care with other members of the healthcare team to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.
