About The Position

The Cardiac Sonographer will demonstrate proficiency by performing routine and emergency echocardiograms, including but not limited to 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, Doppler, Transesophageal, and Stress Echocardiogram, as requested by a physician and in accordance with established protocols. This role involves recording quality information while performing echocardiographic imaging and following procedural guidelines and protocols. The sonographer will explain procedures and possible side effects to the patient or family members, and provide echocardiography service at all necessary locations, including portables, working variable shifts, weekends, and providing emergent call coverage as scheduled. The position requires operating equipment necessary to perform all required procedures and to obtain optimal diagnostic recordings, utilizing ancillary devices such as selected transducers, digital networking systems, and off-line analysis systems. Responsibilities also include maintaining equipment in working order, making minor adjustments and repairs, performing routine cleaning, preventive maintenance, and reporting any equipment malfunction to the echo lab manager. The sonographer will analyze the patient's medical record to obtain history of symptoms and necessary information for performance of diagnostic procedures, and prepare preliminary reports for review and interpretation by a Cardiologist. Participation in quality improvement activities, evaluating procedure results for technical quality and accuracy, and maintaining appropriate logs, files, and records are also key. The role involves reviewing department performance in relation to established goals, implementing changes to affect outcomes, and maintaining confidentiality of patients, employees, and corporation-related activities. Additionally, the Cardiac Sonographer will instruct students, fellows, nurses, or health personnel as requested, and communicate technical and patient care related information according to established processes and timelines. Attending Echo Lab Meetings and participating in Echo-related conferences through attendance, ensuring continuing education and professional growth are expected. The role cultivates a collaborative and cooperative work environment within the department. Level 4 Cardiac Sonographers have additional expectations, including participating in dedicated research protocols, performing portable and lab echocardiograms in an inpatient setting on weekends, holidays, and on-call basis, acting as a resource in the absence of the leadership team, actively participating in educational opportunities, being a role model for other cardiac sonographers, and troubleshooting Cardiac Ultrasound equipment issues, EMR, and Cardiac PAC system issues.

Requirements

Graduate of an American Medical Association approved School of Radiologic Technology, AMA approved ultrasound course, or CMA accredited program in Diagnostic ultrasound (Treated as a 2-year Program).
One year experience with patients preferred.
Must be registered in appropriate cardiology specialties within two years of hire.
Current BLS Certification.

Nice To Haves

Associate's degree preferred.
Valid Sonography credential registration (RDMS, RDCS) through American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), or RCS through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) preferred.

Has the ability to troubleshoot Cardiac Ultrasound equipment issues and follows through until corrected (Level 4).
Troubleshoots issues with EMR and Cardiac PAC system (Level 4).
