About The Position

This position is for a Full-time Cardiac Sonographer at Atrium Health Union West, within the Sanger Heart & Vascular department. The role offers opportunities for career development and advancement through Cardiac Sonographer levels I, II, III, and IV. It is also eligible for a sign-on bonus based on eligibility. The pay range for this position is $35.50 - $53.25 per hour.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Sonography credential registration (ARRT(S), RDMS, RDCS) through American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
  • Must be registered in appropriate cardiology specialties within one year of hire.
  • Completion of CPR Course – BLS Certification Required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with physicians, staff, and other Medical Center personnel regarding patient care.
  • Ability to communicate with patients of varying age groups.
  • Ability to teach and provide instruction and assess quality of other sonographers' work.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, effective working relationship with staff and leadership.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and maintain self-control.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a cardiac ultrasound training program preferred.
  • ACS and/or RCS through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and emergency echocardiograms, including 2D, 3D, Doppler, Transesophageal, and Stress Echocardiograms, as requested by a physician and in accordance with established protocols.
  • Records quality information during echocardiographic imaging, adhering to procedural guidelines and protocols.
  • Explains procedures and potential side effects to patients or their family members.
  • Provides echocardiography services at all necessary locations, including portables, working variable shifts, weekends, and providing emergent call coverage as scheduled.
  • Operates equipment necessary for all required procedures to obtain optimal diagnostic recordings, utilizing ancillary devices such as transducers, digital networking systems, and off-line analysis systems.
  • Maintains equipment in working order, performing minor adjustments and repairs, and reporting any malfunctions to the echo lab manager.
  • Analyzes patient medical records to obtain symptom history and necessary information for diagnostic procedures.
  • Prepares preliminary reports for review and interpretation by a Cardiologist.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities, evaluating procedure results for technical quality and accuracy, and maintaining appropriate logs, files, and records.
  • Reviews department performance against established goals and implements changes to affect outcomes.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient, employee, and corporation-related information.
  • Instructs students, fellows, nurses, or other health personnel as requested.
  • Communicates technical and patient care-related information according to established processes and timelines.
  • Attends Echo Lab Meetings and participates in Echo-related conferences, ensuring continuing education and professional growth.
  • Works weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed.
  • Cultivates a collaborative and cooperative work environment within the department.
  • For Level 4 Cardiac Sonographers: Participates in dedicated research protocols.
  • For Level 4 Cardiac Sonographers: Performs portable and lab echocardiograms in an inpatient setting on weekends, holidays, and on-call.
  • For Level 4 Cardiac Sonographers: Acts as a resource in the absence of the leadership team to provide coverage.
  • For Level 4 Cardiac Sonographers: Actively participates in educational opportunities internally and externally.
  • For Level 4 Cardiac Sonographers: Serves as a role model for other cardiac sonographers.
  • For Level 4 Cardiac Sonographers: Troubleshoots Cardiac Ultrasound equipment issues and follows through until corrected.
  • For Level 4 Cardiac Sonographers: Troubleshoots issues with EMR and Cardiac PAC systems.
