About The Position

This position is for a full-time Cardiac Sonographer at Atrium Health Union West, part of the Sanger Heart & Vascular team. The role offers opportunities for career development and advancement through various levels (I, II, III, IV) and is eligible for a sign-on bonus. The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for performing a range of echocardiographic procedures, analyzing patient data, preparing preliminary reports, and maintaining equipment. The role also involves patient education, quality improvement activities, and maintaining confidentiality. There are opportunities to instruct students and other healthcare personnel. The position requires flexibility in working shifts, including weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage. Level 4 Cardiac Sonographers have additional responsibilities including research, inpatient portable echocardiograms on weekends/holidays/on-call, acting as a resource in leadership's absence, and troubleshooting equipment and EMR systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Sonography credential registration (ARRT(S), RDMS, RDCS) through American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
  • Must be registered in appropriate cardiology specialties within one year of hire.
  • Completion of CPR Course – BLS Certification Required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with physicians, staff, and other Medical Center personnel regarding patient care.
  • Ability to communicate with patients of varying age groups.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, effective working relationship with staff and leadership.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and maintain self-control.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • One year experience with patients preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • Completion of a cardiac ultrasound training program preferred.
  • ACS and/or RCS through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and emergency echocardiograms, including 2D, 3D, Doppler, Transesophageal, and Stress Echocardiograms.
  • Records quality imaging information following procedural guidelines and protocols.
  • Explains procedures and potential side effects to patients and families.
  • Provides echocardiography services at various locations, including portables, and works variable shifts, weekends, and provides emergent call coverage.
  • Operates and maintains echocardiography equipment, performing minor adjustments and cleaning.
  • Analyzes patient medical records to gather necessary history for diagnostic procedures.
  • Prepares preliminary reports for Cardiologist review.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities, evaluating technical quality and accuracy of procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient, employee, and corporation information.
  • Instructs students, fellows, nurses, or other healthcare personnel as requested.
  • Communicates technical and patient care information effectively.
  • Attends Echo Lab Meetings and participates in Echo-related conferences.
  • Works weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed.
  • Cultivates a collaborative and cooperative work environment.
  • Participates in dedicated research protocols (Level 4).
  • Performs portable and lab echocardiograms in an inpatient setting on weekends, holidays, and on-call basis (Level 4).
  • Acts as a resource in the absence of the leadership team (Level 4).
  • Actively participates in educational opportunities (Level 4).
  • Is a role model for other cardiac sonographers (Level 4).
  • Troubleshoots Cardiac Ultrasound equipment issues (Level 4).
  • Troubleshoots issues with EMR and Cardiac PAC system (Level 4).
