About The Position

Mayo Clinic is seeking Cardiac Sonographers to join their growing Echo department. This role involves performing echocardiographic studies, integrating various imaging modalities, and documenting patient data. The Cardiac Sonographer will function independently, utilizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills to obtain comprehensive echocardiograms. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals for interpretation and assisting in training are also key aspects of the role. The position requires the ability to provide quality care to all age groups, from neonates to geriatrics, and demonstrates flexibility in learning new equipment and procedures. Understanding of sterile procedures and isolation precautions is necessary, along with proper precautions to avoid potential exposures. The role involves frequent walking, standing, pushing, and pulling, as well as reaching above shoulder level and occasional twisting. Strong verbal and written communication skills, good hearing, and visual acuity are essential.

Requirements

Associates degree or Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited sonography program required.
Must have knowledge of cardiac pathophysiology, diagnostic procedures, and patient care procedures.
Proven ability to work with co-workers, physicians, and all levels of healthcare professionals.
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), or registry eligible for RDCS or RCS. Registry eligible employees must obtain RDCS or RCS within one year of hire.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Valid Minnesota and/or Wisconsin driver's license.

Nice To Haves

Experience with outreach services helpful.
One-year of cardiac experience is preferred and be registry eligible.
Minimum of one-year experience in adult and pediatric cardiac sonography including experience with transesophageal and stress echo, preferred.

Responsibilities

Competently performs complete echocardiographic studies integrating all cardiac echo imaging modalities and procedures necessary to obtain all pertinent patient data.
Documents patient data and echo exam information completely and accurately utilizing the Echo Information Management System and other necessary computer applications.
Functions independently while using critical thinking and problem-solving skills to obtain a comprehensive echocardiogram.
Collaborates with Lead Cardiac Sonographers, Advanced Cardiac Sonographers, Echocardiographers, Physicians, and other team members to assist in interpretation of echocardiographic findings.
Assists in the orientation, training, and education of all levels of trainees, students, and visitors assigned to Cardiovascular Services.
Expectations extend to includes stress lab and stress echo lab procedures, and outreach.
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality care appropriately to the age of the patient included neonate to geriatric patient populations.
Demonstrates flexibility in learning all equipment, imaging specialties, and echocardiography procedures.
Must understand sterile procedures and isolation precaution techniques and must exercise proper precautions to avoid protentional exposures to radiation, infectious hazards, and sharp instruments.
Is accountable to demonstrate proficiency for the skills outlined in the appropriate competencies list.
Must be able to tolerate frequent walking, standing, pushing, and pulling.
Must be able to reach above shoulder level and endure occasional twisting and turning.
Must be able to communicate well verbally and in writing.
Must be able to hear at ordinary conversation level, and possess good visual acuity.
Support a broad and complex patient population while performing routine to highly advanced echocardiographic examinations, including the integration of innovative imaging modalities.
Function independently with minimal supervision, using sound clinical judgment to ensure high-quality, diagnostically accurate studies.
Participate in multiple educational opportunities offered throughout the year, supporting continuous learning and professional advancement.
Work closely with Advanced Cardiac Sonographers, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members to deliver high-quality echocardiographic care.
