About The Position

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Cardiac Sonographer I, Registry in our Cardiology – Noninvasive Cardiac Imaging department. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. As a Cardiac Sonographer I, you will perform transthoracic echocardiograms and stress echocardiograms under the direct supervision of a Cardiac Sonographer II or III and the general supervision of the Medical Director of the Noninvasive Cardiac Imaging Laboratory. You will prepare patients for procedures, obtain diagnostic-quality images, accurately document studies, and provide compassionate, patient-centered care while maintaining the highest quality standards.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Cardiac Ultrasound (Echocardiography) training program.
  • Minimum six (6) months of clinical training in cardiac ultrasound.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Registry eligible through either: Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using Epic electronic medical records.
  • Experience using Xcelera cardiovascular imaging software.
  • Previous hospital or academic medical center experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for transthoracic echocardiograms and stress echocardiograms by reviewing physician orders, indications, and previous studies.
  • Perform echocardiographic imaging under the direct supervision of a Cardiac Sonographer II or III.
  • Obtain diagnostic-quality cardiac ultrasound images following departmental protocols.
  • Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients, families, physicians, and staff.
  • Document procedures, reports, and charges using Epic and the Xcelera cardiovascular imaging system.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and imaging documentation.
  • Promote patient safety and comfort throughout each examination.
  • Maintain ultrasound equipment and report operational concerns as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
