About The Position

A-Team Solutions LLC is seeking a full-time cardiac sonographer for a contract position at the VA San Diego HealthCare System. The contract is for 1 year with the possibility of up to 3 additional years. The role involves 8-hour shifts, requires on-call availability, and may involve overtime. The position requires the ability to perform various types of echocardiogram studies, coordinate patient scheduling, generate reports, maintain records, and utilize electronic medical records and computer-based data entry. The sonographer will also maintain logs, perform basic equipment maintenance, recognize normal and abnormal cardiac anatomy and function, perform daily equipment calibration, and address the psychosocial needs of patients and their families.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Cardiovascular Sonographer technologist program.
  • Minimum 2 years of hospital experience.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RSCS) Credential or CCI Credential as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS).
  • Registration by ARDMS as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS).
  • Familiarity with the use of an electronic medical record.
  • Familiarity with the use of other simple computer-based data entry forms.
  • Knowledge of the physical properties of sound generation and the transmission characteristics of ultrasound equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Generate real time 2-D, M-mode, doppler (with continuous wave and pulsed), color flow, transesophageal, and dobutamine echo studies.
  • Evaluate all cardiac structures and flows using various imaging modalities.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of patients.
  • Generate reports and keep records.
  • Review test results with the interpreting physician.
  • Utilize electronic medical records for scheduling, patient exam notes, and results.
  • Use simple computer-based data entry forms for recording preliminary data.
  • Maintain logs of patient data and library of videotapes and hardcopy tracings.
  • Perform elementary preventative maintenance of equipment and coordinate service with Biomedical Engineering and outside service companies.
  • Recognize normal anatomy and functional anatomy in diseased conditions.
  • Detect and distinguish normal from abnormal ultrasound images and doppler shifts.
  • Recognize appropriate heart sounds, pulse waves, and abnormal heart rhythms during exercise.
  • Perform daily calibration of equipment.
  • Recognize and provide for the psychosocial needs of patients and their families, including explaining procedures to reduce anxieties and gain cooperation.
