Our Values Respect | Belonging | Accountability | Transparency Department NonInvasive Lab Job Summary Under general supervision, performs quality cardiac ultrasound examinations using non-invasive cardiovascular technology equipment to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with heart and blood vessel conditions. Uses cognitive sonographer skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images. Analyzes ultrasounds, synthesizes sonography information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician. Practices sound safety and infection control practices according to agency policies and procedures; identifies safety and infection control issues. Performs quality control on appropriate systems and equipment. Provides a safe environment for all patients, assuring proper patient positioning and patient care throughout the patient stay. Promotes quality care by redefining priorities for care based on evaluation of patient/family response or changing condition.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program required.
  • 1-3 years direct patient care as a cardiac sonographer in a hospital setting preferred.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
  • RCS - Registered Cardiac Sonographer - CCI - Cardiovascular Credentialing International required, -OR- RDCS - Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer - ARDMS - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography required.
  • Knowledge: Understanding cardiac anatomy and physiology with the ability to position and monitor patients and obtain appropriate images.
  • Knowledge: Performing advanced echocardiographic imaging procedures and techniques such as real-time 3D, contrast perfusion, automated border detection, acoustic densitometry, train and strain rate.
  • Knowledge: Using cardiac ultrasound equipment as well as ability to reasonably troubleshoot all necessary equipment and ensure notification of appropriate personnel when problems occur.
  • Knowledge: Interpreting physician order requests for US imaging studies.
  • Knowledge: Adhering to safety and infection control practices to ensure a safe environment of care.
  • Skill: Interpreting and applying written guidelines, precedents, and work practices to standardized work situations and specific cases.
  • Skill: Recognizing non-standardized situations and preparing recommendations for problem resolutions.
  • Skill: Demonstrating effective interpersonal skill sets that lead to productive communications and collaborations.
  • Skill: Supporting compliance with national patient safety goals, accrediting agency standards, and quality initiatives.
  • Skill: Ensuring the integrity of data for clinical elements, demographics, billing information for physician reports.
  • Ability: Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, organizations and the public.
  • Ability: Interacting effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems.
  • Ability: Assuring patient privacy before, during and after procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE’s) (75%)
  • Perform transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE’s) (10%)
  • Perform exercise or dobutamine stress echocardiograms (ESE/DSE) (10%)
  • Perform emergent echos or scheduled procedures (Invasive lab echos or Watchman/PFO procedures) (5%)
