About The Position

This is a casual position. Casual employees work on an ‘as needed’ basis to meet the needs of the business. Work days/hours will often vary from week to week. Must work 2, 8-hour shifts per month. To provide safe and effective exercise and to provide quality care to adult clients involved in the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited college with a major in exercise science required.
  • Satisfactory completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
  • Three to six months previous experience in a cardiac rehabilitation program or internship.
  • One to three months on-the-job training.
  • EKG Telemetry Monitoring course required.
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters level preferred.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCEP) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Admission assessment completed upon arrival to the unit and based upon identified patient needs.
  • Consistently formulates initial exercise prescription prior to patient's first exercise session.
  • Consistently reviews patients history and prioritizes rehab activities according to participant's needs.
  • Consistently reviews graded exercise test and formulates exercise prescription accordingly.
  • Formulation of initial exercise plan to include physical needs, stated patient goals, and discharge plan.
  • Consistently assesses patient's functional capacity.
  • Consistently identifies patient's likes/dislikes regarding activity.
  • Consistently identifies patient's likes/dislikes regarding exercise.
  • Consistently formulates home exercise program for patient.
  • Assesses the patient's tolerance to activity/learning opportunities.
  • Consistently reviews and updates patient exercise prescription each session.
  • Consistently notes modifications in patient's exercise prescription due to patient's physical response to prescribed activity.
  • Consistently assess participant's response to learning opportunities.
  • Consistently develops further learning opportunities when needed.
  • Implements and documents actual plan of care.
  • Consistently documents participant's tolerance of prescribed activity by documenting Rated Perceived Exertion (RPE), Rating of Perceived Dyspnea (RPD), Hazard Ratio (HR), Electrocardiogram (EKG).
  • Consistently documents exercise prescription on daily exercise sheet.
  • Consistently updates participant's home exercise plan on the daily exercise sheet on a weekly basis.
  • Consistently records participant's activity plan on risk factor/goal sheets.
  • Consistently documents significant change and/or abnormal findings on daily exercise sheet.
  • Consistently records attendance of participant's at learning opportunities.
  • Demonstrates use of other health team members in planning participant outcomes.
  • Consistently consults with other professionals regarding participant's individual needs.
  • Consistently reviews, through case studies, participant's individual activity plan.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain area updated on current trends on the field of exercise science.
  • Consistently directs projects that maintain staff current in the field of exercise science.
