About The Position

This role involves providing increased supervision of participant activities within the Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation departments, adhering to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. The technician will attend exercise sessions, monitor participants for adverse responses to exercise, and assist professional staff with vital sign checks. They will also be responsible for charting participant information, maintaining confidentiality, ensuring emergency supplies are functional, and cleaning exercise equipment. Additionally, the role includes assisting with data entry for program outcomes and demonstrating a strong understanding of cardiovascular and pulmonary anatomy, physiology, and rehabilitation concepts, including risk stratification and behavior change promotion. The technician must be able to detect and report adverse changes in patient status to the appropriate healthcare team members.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • BLS Certification
  • Current Kentucky Certified Nursing Assistant Certification or Medical Assistant certification

Responsibilities

  • Perform various duties to provide increased supervision of participant activities under the direction of managers or staff.
  • Attend scheduled exercise sessions and staff meetings, or obtain information from meeting minutes if unable to attend.
  • Assist professional staff with monitoring participants for inappropriate responses to exercise.
  • Perform pre and post-exercise blood pressure and oxygen saturation checks.
  • Monitor telemetry devices for abnormal responses.
  • Report significant participant conditions to the supervising nurse or professional staff immediately.
  • Chart and document participant information on progress notes.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of participant information.
  • Check emergency supplies and equipment for proper function and adequate supply.
  • Clean exercise room and equipment on a regular basis.
  • Stock necessary supplies as needed.
  • Assist in entering data for rehabilitation program outcome data records.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of cardiovascular and pulmonary anatomy, physiology, and common conditions.
  • Incorporate concepts of risk stratification in determining disease severity and prognosis.
  • Follow multidisciplinary assessment data and comprehensive plans of rehabilitation.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how an exercise prescription is developed and knowledge of behavior change strategies.
  • Demonstrate ability to detect adverse changes in cardiac or pulmonary status and alert the healthcare team.
  • Lead warm-up and cool-down exercises, assess heart rates, and set machines according to exercise prescription.
