About The Position

This part-time position is for a Cardiac PT (Physical Therapist) at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, working 24 hours per week on the Med Surg: IU 30 Cardiac Intermediate unit. The schedule involves three 8-hour shifts per week from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with no weekend requirements. The role focuses on ensuring patient activity, ambulation, and mobility, and may involve assisting with bathroom ambulation, unskilled exercises as delegated by an RN, patient positioning, proning, transferring, and transporting. The position also includes assisting patients with sitting up for meals, setting up meal trays, ensuring clean linens, maintaining a clean and safe environment, responding to patient call lights, and maintaining work equipment and storage areas. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and skills for age-appropriate patient care, understanding growth and development principles to assess and interpret patient status based on age-specific needs.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and effectively ensure activity, ambulation, and mobility of patients.
  • May assist with ambulation to the bathroom.
  • May assist with unskilled exercises as delegated by RN.
  • Assists with patient positioning and proning, transferring, and transporting duties, which may require lifting, pushing, and pulling.
  • May assist patients with sitting up in a chair for meals and setting up meals trays for patients as indicated.
  • May assist in ensuring patient linens are clean and repositioned as indicated.
  • Maintains clean and safe environment.
  • May assist in responding to patient call lights.
  • May assist in maintaining work equipment and storage areas.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
