The Cardiac Procedures Tech Pre Post Cardiac assists the RN with the daily care of assigned patients, including bathing, oral hygiene, repositioning, ambulation, and feeding. They also perform general cleaning duties as assigned. This role performs a variety of patient care tasks to support activities of daily living, as well as specific technical tasks and/or monitoring required for the patients' individualized written care plan. The tech measures and documents vital signs, intake and output, daily weights, and other patient data, promptly communicating observations, concerns, and needs to the RN. Independently performs more advanced patient care treatments as delegated by the RN, which may include arterial sheath removal, bladder scanning, insertion and removal of Foley catheter, drawing arterial blood samples and performing activated clotting time (ACT) point-of-care testing, using telemetry and bedside monitoring systems, IV insertion, site care and removal, telemetry monitoring and interpretation, performing 12-lead EKGs, and phlebotomy. The tech monitors patients and keeps the RN informed of patient status, contacting the RN if critical situations arise and following established procedures for emergency care. They perform data collection for pain, procedure site checks, and extremity pulse checks, reporting to the RN. The role involves preparing patient rooms for admission/discharge, assisting with the admission/discharge process, and performing various patient positioning and transporting duties. Assistance with post-mortem care is also required. The Cardiac Procedures Tech must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served, understanding principles of growth and development and assessing patient needs based on age-specific requirements.
