About The Position

Under general supervision, this role follows established policies, procedures, and professional guidelines. The Cardiac Monitor Technician is responsible for monitoring and identifying basic normal cardiac rhythms, dysrhythmias, and lethal arrhythmias. They report these findings to the appropriate personnel and are responsible for rhythm documentation and labeling per TGH policy. This role also promotes and maintains patient support, interprets and posts rhythm strips according to protocol, and performs 12-lead EKGs. Additionally, the technician maintains and cleans portable telemetry monitors between patient use according to manufacturer's guidelines.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Basic EKG class and demonstration of competency through testing.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and identifies basic normal cardiac rhythms, dysrhythmias, and lethal arrhythmias.
  • Reports identified cardiac rhythms to appropriate personnel.
  • Documents and labels rhythms per TGH policy.
  • Interprets and posts rhythm strips according to protocol.
  • Performs 12-lead EKGs.
  • Maintains and cleans portable telemetry monitors between patient use.
  • Accurately interprets changes in rhythms.
  • Records rhythm strips as required.
  • Demonstrates arrhythmia recognition skills.
  • Communicates lethal arrhythmias to nursing staff and documents strips as requested.
  • Maintains alarms on at all times with rates set safely to minimize false alarms.
  • Identifies individual EKGs with proper patient identifiers.
  • Works with the computer system.
  • Maintains flow through the ER and facilitates transfers, admissions, and discharges timely.
  • Answers telephone and intercom in a pleasant and professional manner and relays messages accurately and quickly.
  • Reports any malfunction of monitoring equipment to the Biomedical Technicians, Charge Nurse, and Nursing Director.
