About The Position

The Cardiac Device Specialist supports the delivery of cardiac device care through in-person and remote monitoring of patients with implanted cardiac rhythm management devices. This position performs device interrogations, reviews device data and alerts, documents findings, and supports follow-up care in collaboration with registered nurses, exercise physiologists, cardiologists, advanced practice providers, and other members of the cardiology team. The Cardiac Device Specialist identifies findings that require clinical review and escalates concerns to the appropriate licensed clinician or provider in accordance with established protocols. This role also provides patient education and supports accurate, timely device clinic documentation and workflows.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Cardiovascular Technology, Health Sciences, or a related healthcare field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within sixty (60) days of start date.
  • Two (2) years of experience in cardiac rhythm management, electrophysiology, cardiovascular technology, cardiac device clinic operations, or a related specialty.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, patience, and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Exercise tact, discretion, sensitivity, and maintains confidentiality.
  • Perform essential job functions successfully in a fast-paced environment.
  • Learn current and new computer applications and office equipment utilized at Bozeman Health.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) certification through the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE).
  • Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-person and remote interrogations of implanted cardiac devices, including pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), cardiac resynchronization therapy devices (CRT-P/CRT-D), and implantable loop recorders (ILRs).
  • Review device diagnostics, arrhythmia events, battery status, lead integrity, device performance, and remote monitoring alerts in accordance with established workflows and protocols.
  • Identify abnormal or clinically significant device findings and escalate concerns to the appropriate registered nurse, exercise physiologist, or provider for review and follow-up.
  • Document device evaluations, findings, actions, and follow-up needs accurately and timely in the electronic medical record and applicable device monitoring systems.
  • Support device programming, testing, and optimization under provider direction and established protocols, including threshold testing, sensing measurements, and lead assessments.
  • Manage remote monitoring platforms and assist patients with transmission setup, connectivity issues, missed transmissions, and other monitoring needs.
  • Coordinate routine and urgent device follow-up needs with patients and the cardiology care team to support continuity of care.
  • Provide patients and families with education on device function, home monitoring systems, follow-up requirements, and troubleshooting within the scope of the role.
  • Maintain accurate device clinic records and follow organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and established documentation and monitoring standards.
  • Maintain knowledge and competency related to cardiac rhythm management devices, remote monitoring technologies, manufacturer updates, and device clinic workflows.
  • Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
