About The Position

Join the Geisinger Heart Institute as a Cardiac Catheterization Technologist. This role assists physicians with adult and pediatric cardiac catheterizations and related procedures. The Geisinger Heart Institute at Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) is recognized as a leader in cardiovascular care coordination. The position offers a $15,000 signing bonus for eligible candidates.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited cardiovascular technology, Radiologic Technology, or allied health program required.
  • RCIS certification required within 3 years of employment.
  • BLS required within 6 months of hire.
  • ACLS required within 6 months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support required within 6 months of hire (Geisinger Medical Center campus only).

Nice To Haves

  • Radiologic Technologist with active ARRT certification
  • Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years of experience
  • Certified Surgical Technologist with at least two (2) years of experience
  • Graduate from Specialty Training Program-Healthcare Related Degree (Preferred)
  • Bachelor's Degree-Related Field of Study (Preferred)
  • Minimum of 1 year-Related work experience (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Assists the physician with adult and pediatric cardiac catheterizations including transluminal coronary angioplasty and stenting, rotational atherectomy, temporary pacemaker insertion, pericardiocentesis, myocardial biopsy, Swan-Ganz catheter insertion, mechanical circulatory support (i.e. ECMO, Impella, Protek Duo), percutaneous valvuloplasty, percutaneous valve implantation/repair, peripheral vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Practices sterile technique preparing for procedure including scrubbing, applying surgical gown, gloving, draping and setup of instrument table.
  • Responsible for direct care of patient during procedure as well as management of hemostasis during and post procedure.
  • Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.
  • Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety, optimizing patient care, and applying principles of ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable).
  • Prepares and/or administers, as applicable, medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post processing of data if applicable.
  • Educates and monitors students and other health care providers.
  • Assists licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized interventional cardiology procedures.
  • Records, monitors, and assesses hemodynamic data collected during procedures.
  • Maintains intra-arterial access as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Pans the procedure table during image production.
  • Performs manual hemostasis during and after procedure.
  • Operates and ensures the quality control of hemodynamic recording devices, cardiac stimulator, oxygen consumption equipment, and blood analysis equipment.
  • Maintains and removes peripherally inserted central catheters as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Initiates ACLS protocols as required for cardiac roles.
  • Participates, as necessary, with ongoing clinical research trials pertinent to the electrophysiology laboratory.
  • Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
