About The Position

This position operates all monitoring, recording, and related equipment used during cardiac catheterization procedures. The technologist collects and prepares pertinent data for physician/staff use, and handles the preparation, delivery, and pick-up of reusable items for re-sterilization. Key responsibilities include monitoring patient electrocardiograms for cardiac dysrhythmias, operating the defibrillator, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation when required, and providing assistance in emergency situations. The role also involves assisting in pre and post-procedure activities related to equipment and patient care, performing initial troubleshooting, calibration, cleaning, and quality assurance measures on equipment. The technologist identifies cardiovascular and peripheral vascular anatomy for documentation, obtains and documents clinical data during procedures, and prepares and operates imaging, angiographic, interventional, and storage systems. They will also position patients and select exposure factors for radiographic procedures, and support physicians and staff during procedures by scrubbing and assisting with diagnostic, interventional, and surgical procedures, demonstrating knowledge of equipment and options. The technologist will perform bloom operations (i.e., overdrive pacing) and must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, understanding principles of growth and development and assessing patient status based on age-specific needs.

Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
• Associate's Degree in Cardiovascular Technology or related field.
• Cath lab experience required.
• Completion of an approved basic ECG interpretation course within three months of hire.
• Demonstrated ability to quickly change priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication skills to work effectively with physicians, patients and other staff members.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the departmental job standards.
