About The Position

Assesses, plans, and implements nursing care for patients of diverse ages while ensuring patient comfort. Practices safe patient handling techniques and is proficient with aseptic techniques. Continues to evaluate assigned patients and provides ongoing treatment. Anticipates, identifies, and responds to educational and emotional needs of patients and families. Guides and directs healthcare personnel (i.e. Patient Care Technicians) in caring for patients. Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up, maintenance, and use (i.e., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, and drainage devices). Utilizes safeguards such as IV pump drug library and monitor alarms whenever available to maximize patient safety. Initiates emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury). Utilizes hospital information system to process orders/data and retrieve patient information. Documents procedures in patient medical record. Maintains knowledge of documentation requirements needed for patients' records. Cares for patients during Cardiac Cath Lab procedures which include, but are not limited to, coronary angiography, PTCA, stents, pediatric and adult heart catheterizations, peripheral PTA, EPS, Ablation, PPM, ICD, Valvuloplasty, and laser procedures. Maintains readiness of equipment in procedure rooms. Acquires supplies needed for procedures and passes to physician or assistant maintaining sterile technique. Assists in maintaining inventory control. Transports patients to and from procedure rooms. May apply manual pressure to puncture site to obtain hemostasis following procedure. Serves in a charge/leadership role based on skill and unit needs. When assigned charge, makes patient assignments; triages patients; and problem solves with staff, physicians, patients, families, and ancillary departments. Assists in quality control. Takes assigned call as defined in unit specific policy manual. Assists with patient care duties/tasks (i.e., emptying drainage devices, ambulating, and hygiene). Assists with clerical duties (i.e., maintenance of chart, patient record, and answering phones and call lights). Provides orientation/education for staff, students, and other hospital and community organizations as requested.

Requirements

Registered Nurse
Proficient with aseptic techniques
Knowledge of equipment set-up, maintenance, and use (i.e., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, and drainage devices)
Proficiency in utilizing hospital information system to process orders/data and retrieve patient information
Knowledge of documentation requirements needed for patients' records
Ability to care for patients during Cardiac Cath Lab procedures
Ability to maintain readiness of equipment in procedure rooms
Ability to acquire supplies needed for procedures and pass to physician or assistant maintaining sterile technique
Ability to assist in maintaining inventory control
Ability to transport patients to and from procedure rooms
Ability to apply manual pressure to puncture site to obtain hemostasis following procedure
Ability to serve in a charge/leadership role
Ability to make patient assignments, triage patients, and problem solve
