About The Position

Responds to requests for Paramedic level services from areas within the Emergency Department. Completes patient care tasks within the scope of the Paramedic/EMT scope of practice. The paramedic performs assigned duties in the emergency department under the supervision of Nursing with documentation of proper training and skills evaluation. Assists charge nurse and/or triage nurse in assessing, prioritizing, and maintaining patient flow and assists in reassessing patients waiting to be seen. Participates in activities which contribute to professional growth and development. Participates in community activities, which improve the public’s understanding of the EMS system. Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.

Requirements

  • EMT/Paramedic licensure required
  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support will be mandatory within 2 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated competency for Administering 12 lead EKG, point of Care Testing, C-spine immobilization, Foley catheter initiation, maintenance, and removal, Peripheral IV starts, lab draws, maintenance, and removal, and Application of orthopedic splinting devices.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • A knowledge and understanding of medical terminology, some pathophysiology and anatomy, and basic math.
  • An ability to multi task, follow direction, remain calm and organized in crisis.
  • A willingness to learn, adhere to policy and provide necessary documentation of training/competency.
  • Simple math skills.
  • An ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to requests for paramedic level services from areas within the emergency department in a timely and safe manner.
  • Completes documentation and records according to department policy.
  • Ensures emergency preparedness equipment is ready for response at all times.
  • Assists with codes and critical care patients within the emergency department at the paramedic level, including interdepartmental transport and monitoring.
  • Assists charge nurse and/or triage nurse in assessing, prioritizing, and maintaining patient flow and assists in reassessing patient waiting to be seen.
  • Participates in activities which contribute to professional growth and development
  • Participates in community activities, which improve the public’s understanding of the EMS system.
  • Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
