Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Operator’s License with driving privileges in the State of Virginia.
  • DCJS Certification.
  • Extensive working knowledge of departmental policies, institutional policies, operating practices, procedures, and inmate programs.
  • Progressive security working experience within the Virginia Department of Corrections.
  • Working experience planning, scheduling, and/or organizing work for others to include timekeeping and duty roster management.
  • Extensive experience in the supervision of corrections staff.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of practices and procedures governing security and/or administration.
  • Ability to receive, understand, follow, and give oral and written instructions.
  • Working knowledge in the use of firearms, radio equipment, physical control devices, electric and electronic controls.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework in Criminal Justice or related field, LEAD Graduate or equivalent applicable experience or training.
  • Knowledge and experience with Evidence Based Practices.
  • Certification as an instructor (General, Firearms, Defensive Tactics and CPR).
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Office Programs.
